Button Wedding Theme Ideas: Bouquets, Wedding Cakes, Invitations, Favors, and More
88
I didn't have any particular preference about buttons when I planned my own wedding over five years ago. Thus, it wasn't something that I considered for a theme. I have no regrets about this, but now that I use buttons regularly for jewelry making, I do think that this would be a very fun wedding theme. What's great about buttons as a theme is that you can incorporate them into any color scheme and/or other theme such as vintage, beach, etc. Don't let the button idea control you but instead use it to further enhance your existing idea. You can use buttons in as few or as many components of your wedding as you like. Above all, remember that buttons are fun! Enjoy working with them throughout your wedding planning.
Button Bouquets and Boutonnieres
I hadn't even heard of button bouquets 3 years ago and now you see them everywhere! I can't believe how popular this idea has become. If you and your bridesmaids are a crafty group, you may want to consider making your own bouquets and boutonnieres. If you aren't up to this task yourself, there are lots of sellers on Etsy, such as RBKCreations and MissJenniferRae, and elsewhere online who design beautiful bouquets and boutonnieres. In addition to button boutonnieres for the groomsmen, consider them for your ushers, musicians, grandparents, and more. Close family and friends, especially those involved in the wedding, will appreciate this little gesture.
Button Jewelry for the Bride and Bridesmaids
There are so many fun possibilities for button jewelry for a bride and her bridesmaids. Consider bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and hair pins. Depending on the complexity of the jewelry you'd like, it may be pretty straightforward to make it yourself. Check out handmade items, too. If you aren't able to find in stock items that match your colors and preferences, consider asking jewelry designers to do custom work. Many designers are happy to make custom sets just for you. Don't forget to include your flower girl in the button jewelry fun, too.

Flower Girl Basket and Ring Bearer Pillow
Adding a simple button detail on a flower girl basket and/or ring bearer pillow is easy and will really tie the theme together across the entire wedding party. There are lots of great tutorials out there for both flower girl baskets and ring bearer pillows, but don't be afraid to purchase ones that are already made and simply add embellishments.
Save the Dates and Invitations
There are lots of fun ways to add button embellishments or button images to your save the dates and/or wedding invitations. You can also consider creating save the date buttons that people can pin to their purses, jackets, or shirts. They will be a fun lasting souvenir when the wedding is over, too. Consider searching button invitations on Etsy.
Ceremony Decorations and Reception Centerpieces
In addition to button bouquets for the women in the wedding party, button bouquets make great reception centerpieces. They can be used for other ceremony and reception decorations as well. Many artists who make bouquets that you carry also make centerpiece bouquets. If you're planning to make the bouquets yourself, add this to the list! Have fun adding other elements to the bouquets, such as fabric or felt.
Place Cards, Table Numbers, and Other Table Details
The details for the reception, such as place cards, table numbers, and napkin holders are excellent ways to add simple button embellishments. Don't get overwhelmed searching for lots of button specific items. Search for artists who do custom work or consider purchasing plain materials and embellishing them.
Wedding Cake
While you can embellish a wedding cake with real buttons that guests have to remove before eating, there are a handful of options out there for edible buttons. Many bakers will be familiar with edible embellishment options, as they are frequently used for decorative flowers and more. You can also consider purchasing edible buttons from someone who specializes in this or making the buttons yourself. I have included a couple options in the links below. Check out the chocolate buttons under Reception Favors, too.
Reception Favors
The possibilities for button wedding favors are endless. Many artists will be happy to work with you to design custom favors if you can't find what you're looking for or want a specific color set. If you aren't interested in giving buttons as favors, consider adding them to the favor bags or boxes.
Button Gifts for the Bride and Groom
While this article is mainly aimed at couples who are planning their own button themed wedding, if you are going to attend a button themed wedding, think about purchasing or making a gift that involves buttons.
Consider something that will have a lasting place in their home, such as a beautiful framed piece. Seasonal items are fun, too, especially if the wedding is right around a holiday.

I love the idea of button flowers and bouquets since they will last forever :) And the favors are fun ideas too!
I love the white bouquet! How beautiful. And commemorating the date with pins and magnets are a great idea. Cute post! {:-D
What wonderful button creations you have found! many inspirations here!
I am button crazy and have quite a stash. I have been known to buy a garment(second hand) just for the buttons. You have presented some really neat ways to craft with buttons. This is a hub that I plan on sharing with my nieces. Thanks.
What a great hub, RC, with some beautiful pics. I love button and brooch bouquets and even though they're labor intensive, I wish more brides would consider them. Nicely done!
Voted up, useful, and interesting. I really never knew there was so many different ways to use buttons. Very interesting and very well written randomcreative. Great article.
Just a week or two ago I shared your button greeting card hub with my blog readers. Now this tops that one for beauty and elegance! Wow. The photos are breathtaking. Voted up, beautiful and sharing with my readers...oh yeah, Stumbling it too!
This is an incredibly quirky idea which I love.
I am planning my own wedding and keep changing my mind on themes and styles. I love the bouquet. It's pretty and can be kept instead of having fresh flowers.
Voting up :)
What an interesting idea. I would have never thought to use buttons in this way.
I love this! As many buttons as I own, I could probably do a small wedding for free!
Very creative idea and your Hub, Random, is very well layed out and organized with wonderful photos. I now can imagine using buttons for birthdays and other celebrations as well!
