11 Button Wreath Craft Holiday Decorations
82
I had so much fun researching for and writing my evergreen wreath tutorial hub earlier this year that I decided to write a button wreath hub, too. Even though I still prefer the classic evergreen wreath to just about anything else, it's also no secret that I love buttons. If you want to use your evergreen wreath on your door, you can still create a Christmas button wreath to hang somewhere else in your house for the holiday season. Many of these projects are very easy to customize for any season or holiday so have fun mixing it up as you please. Happy creating!
Button Wreath Ornament
Don't let the name Martha Stewart scare you away from this project. This is a relatively easy, quick project that only requires items that can be easily obtained from most craft stores. If you don't want to hang your wreath from a tree, it can also make a wonderful door or wall decoration. There are many ways to customize this little wreath including colors, ribbon style, and size.
Styrofoam Button Wreath
A Styrofoam base can make a great base for any number of button projects. If you don't want to paint your base, another great option is to cover it in fabric. You can glue or pin the fabric in place. The suggested wreath size for this project is 12" x 1", but don't feel limited by this. A button wreath will look great in just about any size.
Button Wreath Frame
The first link has a tutorial for this idea, but I wanted to include a Christmas example, too. The tutorial recommends using a 12" x 12" canvas as a minimum, which is probably a good idea. You will have a tough time making a substantial wreath that is much smaller than that, especially if you are using a number of larger buttons (although a tiny button wreath would be adorable, too). You can add any embellishments that you like such as bows or other holiday details.
Wreath for Christmas GIANT size smothered with Green and Red Buttons
This felt wreath features a plethora of hand sewn buttons in all sizes and shades of red, green, and white. I love the striped and dotted buttons that are included. While you could glue the buttons with fabric glue, sewing them will make this a Christmas decoration that lasts for many years. Don't forget to include a ribbon or fabric loop at the top.
Wreath Form with Burlap and Buttons
The author created this simple wreath by wrapping a wreath form with burlap and then adding some buttons. She does not say what the wreath form is made out of although I would assume that it's Styrofoam. She also does not say how she attached the buttons, but it looks like she glued them. I have pined buttons on Styrofoam forms before as well, which works nicely. You can stick to a small amount of buttons like the author did or you can fill up the whole wreath.
Cardboard Button Decorated Wreath
If you aren't much for sewing but still enjoy working with buttons, this is a perfect project for you. Although the author avoided a hot glue gun for this project, it would work just fine, as well any other clear drying all-purple craft glue. This is the kind of simple project that is so addicting that as soon as you've finished your Christmas wreath, you'll want to make one in another color combination.
Christmas Snowflake Button Wreath
I love how this is a winter themed wreath instead of a Christmas themed wreath so it will carry you through the entire season. This link doesn't have any instructions for creating the wreath, but all of the materials are readily available at most craft stores and the creating process is fairly intuitive. If you can't find any snowflake embellishments or paper punches, there are a number of free snowflake printables available online.
Button Wreath Card
If you love the idea of making a button wreath but don't necessarily want to make one to hang in your house, why not make one on a card? This is such a cute idea that I may have to use it myself sometime. Make sure that you choose buttons that are an appropriate size for your card. Need help making a bow? Check this out.
Upcycled Button Wreath
This wreath is upcycled because the author is using an old pool noodle for the form and vintage buttons. A Styrofoam wreath form will work just fine, too, if you don't have any old noodles. This wreath is so unique with all of the one of a kind vintage buttons and the funky fabric flowers. If you can't find fabric flowers, consider making your own with this tutorial or with this other great tutorial. I think that all of the red in this wreath makes it appropriate for Christmas, but you can certainly swap out black for green if you like.
Framed Fabric Button Wreath
There aren't any photos for the step by step instructions, so I would not recommend this project if you don't have any or only have a little sewing experience. This is another one of those projects where you can just glue the buttons in place, but they will hold for a lot longer if you sew them. Take the extra time and create a lasting piece for your home. The bow is a great detail.
Heart Shaped Button Wreath
The heart shaped frame and vintage details give this wreath a whimsical feel. A fake wood or Styrofoam heart shaped form may be a little hard to come by, but try scouting the craft stores right before Valentine's Day. If you can, include some vintage details to give your piece a unique charm. If you don't have anything on hand, check second hand stores. Old earrings and beads that may not stand up well on their own will be perfect for a decoration like this.
Fabric Covered Button Wreath
If you're looking for a change from a plastic button wreath, consider using fabric covered buttons with a Styrofoam form. I love the evergreen detail on the pictured wreath, too. If you don't want to purchase fabric covered buttons, consider making your own.

Excellent wreath information.
a great variety of button wreaths. I can see making these for different seasons or decor styles.
These are all so unique and beautiful in their own simple way, but I am partial to the first and second button wreaths. The first one (red and white) would even be nice on a heart-shaped form for Valentine's Day.
~voted up and beautiful~
