While I was researching button cards for my button greeting cards hub, I saw a handful of cards that had buttons for balloons. I decided to see what other balloon card ideas I could find. I'm sure that it's not a surprise that there were a lot of great cards. I am continually amazed at the talent and creativity out there and wanted to share just a few of the best balloon card ideas with you. There are ideas for birthday cards, pop up cards, and much more. Happy creating!

Birthday Cards with Balloon Punch

One of the easiest ways to create balloons for your greeting cards is with a balloon hole punch. There are a handful available at varying prices. I've linked a couple below. A few balloon punches and a simple birthday greeting create a beautiful card. Mix up the colors to fit the preferences of your recipients.

Martha Stewart Punch Med Balloon

Fiskars Lever Punch, Small, Balloon

Happy Birthday Card with Printed Balloon

If you don't want use a balloon punch or one that you drew yourself, consider using a clip art or Creative Commons image of a balloon for your cards. Additionally, you can design your own balloon graphic for cards, which may give you more flexibility for changing the color, size, etc. of the balloon for different cards. Experiment with different fonts to match your balloons.

Student/Children Birthday Balloons

A group of teachers created this idea for their first grade students, but this idea doesn't have to be limited to schools. It would be perfect for any kind of birthday party or other special occasion. You could customize large balloons for showers, graduations, and more. The Pixie Sticks are a great touch. You could easily use large straws or other sticks, too.

Paper Sewn Balloon Cards

Did you know that you can use your sewing machine to sew paper? For those of us who enjoy playing with paper more than fabric, this is a great way to get some extra use out of your sewing machine while adding an awesome element to your paper crafts. In this post, Michelle shows how she creatively layers and sews her paper to make balloons, hearts, and flowers for her greeting cards. The possibilities are endless. Once you get started, you won't be able to stop.

Excuse Me; I Need Some Air! Balloon Card

This is a different take on the balloon card idea, as it's a card that can hold a balloon. The "Excuse Me; I Need Some Air!" line for the card is great. This is a perfect message for moms, moms to be, teachers, and anyone who may get overwhelmed/smothered from time to time. This artist created a wonderful template with different options for the "I Need Some Air!" line. You can customize the pocket any way you like to coordinate appropriately.

8 Bit Balloon Cards

Anyone who remembers 80s video and computer game graphics will get a kick out of this. This link is for a product listing, not a tutorial. You can simply purchase this card set or you can use it as an inspiration to create your own 80s balloon card graphics. These cards are designed for Halloween, but you can customize the color combination for any occasion.

Pop Up Balloon Cards

Have you ever wanted to make your own pop card but didn't know where to start? This is a great pop up tutorial. The balloons are the easy part of the card here. It's the pop up that's a little trickier. The artist does a great job breaking down the steps, though, and you'll have your own card ready to go in no time.

Fabric Balloon Cards

Fabric is a great material for creating balloons on cards. The artist provides a great template with several different fabric cut outs as well as instructions for assembling the cards. As suggested, you can use these cards as tags, or you can easily turn them into mini folding cards.

Scrapbook Balloon Cut Outs

I love the idea of using different patterned and solid papers for balloons. The mix of balloons for each card is very fun and colorful. There are no instructions for these cards, but they're pretty self explanatory. You can mix up the colors and/or add messages to the cards so you can use them for any occasion.

Balloon Explosion with Happy Birthday Banner Card

The front of this card has a lone balloon on it, which leaves you feeling a little sad until you open the card and discover a huge bunch of balloons and a big birthday banner. This post takes you through creating the lone balloon, the birthday banner, and the bouquet each step by step. This card does involve a number of steps, but none of them are particularly tricky.

Happy Birthday Balloons Card

Why not feature people blowing up balloons? This is such a creative idea. Of course you can customize the message in the balloons any way that you like if you don't want to use this idea for a birthday greeting. If drawing people isn't your specialty (don't worry, it isn't mine either), consider cutting pictures of our magazines or recruiting a talented friend to team up with you.

Balloon Greeting Cards with Balloon Eraser Stamp

If you want to stamp your balloons but can't find a stamp that you like (or are simply looking to make one of your own), create your own out of an eraser. There are no directions here, but the concept is pretty self-explanatory. You can create solid balloons or balloons with any type of pattern that you like such as stripes or zigzags. Erasers are cheap so have fun making multiple stamps.
