Show Tunes Hits Mix (Some of my Personal Favorites from Great Musicals)
62
I have always enjoyed musicals. I think that it started when I was young because I grew up watching Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and the other 90's musical Disney movies when they were brand new. They are still some of my favorite musicals today. Since then, I've watched live performances and recordings of many other musicals. Honestly, I can't pick one favorite. My husband doesn't think that I can count Sound of Music as an all-time favorite because I've never seen it live, so I usually say Oklahoma! But they are so many great ones.
If you're reading this because you also love musicals, I hope that you discover some new tunes. If you're reading this because you're putting together a mix for someone who loves musicals and aren't sure where to start, I hope that this is helpful.
The order is negotiable, except for the first one ("Let's start at the very beginning...") and the last one (how can you go wrong there?). The only musical recording that I'm really partial to is the original Canadian cast recording of Joseph with Donny Osmond. I've linked it below along with a few other musical recordings that I own. I was able to get copies of a lot of the Broadway recordings that I didn't own from the library. If you need help tracking down recordings of any of the songs on this list, let me know. Enjoy!
1) Do-Re-Mi, The Sound of Music
2) Kansas City, Oklahoma!
3) Go Into Your Dance, 42nd St.
4) Trolley Song, Meet Me in St. Louis
5) Belle, Beauty and the Beast
6) What is This Feeling?, Wicked
7) Singin' in the Rain, Singin' in the Rain
8) Music of the Night, Phantom of the Opera
9) Oldest Established, Guys and Dolls
10) Betrayed, The Producers
11) Dames, 42nd St.
12) The Farmer and the Cowman, Oklahoma!
13) My Favorite Things, The Sound of Music
14) Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man, Showboat
15) All I Ask of You, Phantom of the Opera
16) Joseph's Coat, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat
17) Luck be a Lady, Guys and Dolls
18) Defying Gravity, Wicked
19) Finale, Les Miserables
20) Summer Nights, Grease
21) Goodbye!, The Producers
This was not on my soundtrack, but it's another classic.

I love show tunes, too, and you've chosen some great ones. I think my fave is "They Call the Wind Mariah," from Paint Your Wagon. Voted up this fun hub!

Great list, some of my own favs are on there! I also love McCavity (Cats), Oklahoma (from the same), Popular (Wicked), The Sadder but Wiser Girl (Music Man), Those Caanan Days (Joseph), and One (Chorus Line). Your hub made me smile, thanks!
